To
Join St. Francis:
Joining a church means becoming part of a community—a community
that will welcome you, pray for you, and encourage you to get to know
God, your world, and yourself more deeply. For information about
joining St. Francis, talk with Fr. John, 696-1491.
Music Ministry.
Worship is the heart of St. Francis' life together, and music is
a key
part of this. Our music ministry ties us into the liturgical purposes
of our gathering and helps open us to the God we worship and to each
other as a worshiping community. In our music we express our adoration
of God the Father, our commitment to follow God the Holy Spirit working
in our midst. We echo and deepen our hearing of Scripture, and we pace
ourselves to the liturgical season. Worship at St. Francis includes a
wide variety of music sources and styles and features special choral or
solo pieces for inspiration, but centers on music that will be sung by
the entire congregation, with leadership from the choir .The Choir welcomes
singers of all skill levels. Rehearsal is every Wednesday night from
7:00-8:30 p.m., with Sunday morning brushup at 10:00 a.m. Contact Mary
Jane Almes or Beverly Bammel for more information.
Pastoral Care. We
take seriously the words of Scripture to “bear one
another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ”
(Galations 6:2). As we care for each other in times of special need, we
strengthen the bonds of community and show God’s love in our
lives. The Pastoral Care Ministry oversees a variety of concerns of the church such as
hospital visits,
meals for a few days following a hospital stay
or other crisis, talking through a situation with a parishioner, etc.
If you would like to help, on an occasional, as needed basis, contact
Jean Vilas.
For pastoral needs or to explore ways you can serve in this
ministry, please contact the Rector, Fr. John Williams (979-696-1491).
Fellowship. Like the early Christian community, we honor the
need to gather together for fellowship (see Acts 2:42). We enjoy
fellowship following each Sunday service during the St. Francis Cafe.
The first Sunday of each month, we share a covered-dish luncheon
after the service.
Christian Formation. Being formed in the likeness of Christ
is a lifelong matter. Our ministries serve all ages.
Outreach. As we seek and serve Christ in all people, we
share various ministries to “embrace, encourage, and
empower” the world.
Life in the Spirit. Prayer
and spirituality nourish us individually corporately as we seek to live
into our Baptismal promises. Spiritual direction (individual and
in groups) is available from several members of our parish, and
references can also be made to other spiritual directors in the
Bryan-College Station community. Lay-led Morning Prayer,
Centering Prayer, and Noonday Prayers for Peace are regularly offered.
The Praying Hands ministry leads monthly workshops to make Prayer
Shawls or Anglican Rosaries. Our outdoor Labyrinth provides an
opportunity for anyone in the community to experience the meditation of
this prayer method.
Communication
is the lifeblood of
any community. Workers in this
ministry help members keep in touch through a monthly newsletter and
other communication forums and publicize our programs and
ministries
through Bryan-College Station news outlets. If there is enough
interest, the communications ministry will also provide forums for us
to share our faith journeys and creative expressions of spirituality in
print. If you are interested in serving in this vital ministry, please contact Fr. John for more information.
The Prayer Circle
provides a focus for those committed to praying for
requests of others, both within the church and in the community.
Contact Jean Vilas .
Angel Tree
is a nationwide
program that provides Christmas gifts for children who have a parent in
prison. Here at St. Francis, we have expanded the program to include
Easter clothing and school supplies for the fall semester. Parishioners
can "adopt" an individual child at Christmastime by pledging to provide
a gift in an amount not to exceed $25. Those who wish to become
involved in the administration of the program can contact the church
office at 696-1491.
The
Altar Guild
works in teams of 2,
setting up the bread and wine for
the worship service and then taking it down and washing the chalices
and linens. Please contact Jane Sielken, 693-7135 if you would like to
join this opportunity to serve God, our priest and congregation.
Chalice
Bearers
bring forward the
elements (bread, water, wine) for
Holy Communion and stay at the altar to administer the cup (chalice) of
wine after the priest has administered the bread to all who come to
join in the holy meal. New and returning Chalice Bearers will be
trained in the fall. If you are interested in serving as a Chalice
Bearer, please contact Fr. John for more information.
